Is cheese ok to give to dogs?
Question:

Hi all,

Just a quick question as i know all my last posts have been extremly long!

Is cheese ok to give to dogs? our trainer recommened it instead of doggie treats as it does not contain as many preservatives etc?

We feed skye on Pro Plan Adult she likes it, and loves her cheese so we finely grate a tiny bit of cheese, mix it in and its gone in seconds. she enjoys her meals much more.

Do you think for the amount we give her it will harm her?

Again many thanks
Emma x

Answer:

Unless a dog is lactose intollerant cheese, in moderation, will do no harm. I often use a fat-reduced cheese for training treats

Cheese, liver cake, sardine/tuna cake, cooked liver pieces - all are far better treats/rewards than most commercially produced stuff.

i also use fat reduced cheese for training my girls love it ..but SB is right the other options are healthier

Answer:

yep cheese is great... my dogs love it! also peanut butter is nice but a bit messy...

Answer:

My dogs also love cheese but I know too much can have an affect on the waistline etc.....it hadn't occured to me to use reduced fat cheese....I'll be giving that one a go as well now.

shadow LOVES cheese, I use it as a training reward. But If you go to a training class I wouldnt recommend it, I took some yesterday with me and it went all squishy and melted in my pocket!

Answer:

i agree i had that problem too, i just use it when we are practising at home. i wont give her as much now she has a bit in her dinner.

She likes little hot dog sausages but again messy! she likes digestives might try that one!

anyone else detect that we have some very spoilt dogs on this board?

Love emma
