Is he going to be OK? electric shock??
Question:
Ernie, my JRT, has just managed to eat through the iron cable, whle it was pluged in but not switched on at the wall. The trip switch went and he seems fine. He didn't jump back or yelp or anything which I didn't think he would as it was not switched on at the wall but why did it trip? I only realised that he had done it after I looked around to see what has cuased the TV to go off, and there is was, behind the settee, with hte cable in his mouth. His is always trying to eat cables and I keep them away from him, but I just didn't think of the iron one as I was about to start. I thought that if it was switched off at the wall, it was ok, but why did it tripped??? Answer: Have you taken him to the vets? Even if he doesn't appear hurt, you should deffinately go to the vets, as burns can occur internally, with nothing showing on the outside. Answer: But I don't think he did get a shock. He is currently running aroudn the living room after eating his tea and I acting completely normal, well as normal as his is.... Answer: If you are at all worried, it won't hurt to take him for a check-up anyway. Or at least phone your vet and ask for advice. Answer: I would probably go to the vets or at least phone them and see what they say. Answer: Like Hevvur says take him to the vets, even if there is nothing wrong its best to be safe. I know thats what I would do. Answer: In a properly wired circuit that shouldn't happen - ie if the switch is off at the wall, there should be no electricity going through the cable. The fact that the circuit tripped because of the wire actually being live even though the switch was off would give me concerns about the state of the wiring - would be worth getting the wiring checked by a qualified electrician. The circuit breaker tripping out may have been fast enough to prevent any visible injury, but it would be worth getting the vets to give him a once-over. Answer: i agree with everyone else either phone the vets or go to the vets just for a check up best to be safe than sorry Answer: Are you sure the iron was switched "off"? Coz my o/h says there is no electricity going down the cable if the plug is in the off position on the wall, and he says the only way the circuit breaker would have tripped, is if it was switched "on", in which case your dog would have got a shock? Very strange that if he seems ok. If it was mine I would do what everyone else has said and check with the vet just to be on the safe side. Answer: I've had shocks from the mains a couple of times before, through being stupid while doing some wiring jobs. Having said that, I'm a lot bigger than a JRT and I didn't bite the cable... I'd get that socket checked out/replaced and probably at least give the vet a ring although I guess more than an hour and a half later it should be fairly obvious if any injury occured...
