help any suggestions - aggression or excitement?
Question:
my dog clyde STB is 3 nearly 4 and is showing signs of aggression towards my partner and only him its as though he`s some kind of threat to him ive thought of breeding him but i feel castration is the only option at the moment he has such a good temperment normally and is a joy to be around i just dont know ANY IDEAS Answer: What exactly are these signs of aggression? When do they occur? What do you/your partner do when it happens? Do you have any thoughts about why it is happening? It is unwise to advise on dog-human aggression without actually seeing the situation first-hand, but any additional information would help us to understand exactly what is going on ETA - a dog that shows aggression of any kind to humans or to other dogs should not be bred. Answer: its normally when we come home on an evening when he wants to get outside because the cats are out there he likes to chase r cats for some reason but gets on really well with them.he tends to keep jumping up my partner and growling at him but i feel he`s not trying to hurt him because if he was he would have done so by know he`s seems he`s just threatening him he`s fine towards me ,my daughter and other pets.when he does this i make him sit and wait before i let him out to cool off.he knows he`s doing wrong because when he comes back in he tries to make amends with my partner it only happens know and again but the thing is i dont what him to ever bite anyone and have to have him destroyed.i can do anything with him and my little girl too with no signs of aggression at all.he`s the perfect pet in every shape and form its just this problem i have Answer: Are you sure that this is aggressive/threatening behaviour and not simply excitement? I believe that Staffs can be quite vocal and make all sorts of 'growly' noises out of excitement or pleasure. What does your partner do when the dog jumps up at him? What is the general relationship between dog & partner? Does your partner participate in feeding, exercising, training the dog? By the way, dogs do not feel the emotion that we call guilt He will be reacting to voice tone and/or body language and the expectation that he is/may be the focus of any anger. Answer: that may well be the case. i was always the one that had disciplined him he does everything with me that may be the problem.my partner does walk him on a regular basis and they do get on well.he is a very excitable dog.my partner does dicipline him more know and most of the time he listens to him.we normally only have to change the tone of are voice`s and he listens to are commands.THANKS FOR GETTING BACK TO ME Answer: hi clydey - I know that bruno and my Oh have real play fights and Bruno growls etc etc - but he never ever ever bites etc etc or shows signs of it being anything other than fun !! - its always playful - phil can put his hand in bruno'smouth etc and bruno will chew and then lick his hand and stuff likethat - however sometimes he sounds like he is about to kill him - really loud grolwing and howling when they fight - personally I think bruno loves it - sees him as pack leader - he will not play fight with me AT all. what i am getting at is basically staffies are very vocal and because of this can sometimes be taken for aggression but it doesnt sound as if it really is - however obvvioously without seeing it cant really comment on that one.... dani Answer: I might be wrong but it sounds like sheer excitement.Buds does the same to me even when ive just been up to the loo, staffs are very noisy little ******s, and the jumping up and growling is normal!! Answer: THANKS all for your comments i agree they are very vocal dogs but he just seems different it could be that when he`s left during the day he see`s the cats through the door and can`t get to them he`s like a bomb going off when he finally gets to go out side i often think he`s going through the fence.he`s fine if i let him straight out into the garden when i get home.i think i maybe just getting worried for no reason i just dont want to c him bite anyone because he`s just not that sort of dog.
