Grazed nose/ will it go black again ?
Question:

My bitch loves to use her nose as a spade, when digging, but had grazed it, the scab has now fallen off, but she has a large pink patch, will she get her black nose back, or will it now stay pink,

Does anyone know " HELP "

Answer:

I would imagine that if the graze has destroyed the pigment cells then the spot will remain pink. If it does stay pink then it is only a cosmetic thing but it may need protection from strong sunlight.

Answer:

Our JRT bitch did it to her nose a few years back, was out ratting and she grazed it on the floor rimming if a shed...her nose still has a pale spot on but it isn't as pink as it was....so i doubt that the spot will turn black again

Answer:

The same thing happened to brandie. It did fade but stayed a pale pink colour, it didn't go back to black.
I hope your girl's nose isn't too sore

Answer:

Spring has done this several times (burying things underneath blankets - she got quite upset when she couldn't lift the settee cusion to cover an offending cuddly toy so I covered it with a blanket for her!) hers have always gone black again apart from one she did at crufts trying to bury her water bowl.

If it doesn't go black again i'd suggest using suncream as a precaution during summer - Ziggie has a red nose and it will burn even if it doesn't appear to, better safe than sorry.

As you can see he doesn't mind!

My old Rottie was forever doing the same while snuffling/digging and it grew back black each time!

Answer:

Think this depends on how deep the damage and also on the normal pigment, I mean some dogs have very black noses and others have noses that seem to lose colour particularly in the winter. My Elks have never (touch wood) damaged their noses enough for it not to grow back black but I have seen dogs of different breeds loose pigment with even slight damage. Bit the same with skin damage if the coat is dark it may grow back white.

Answer:

Ozzy digs with his nose and scrapes it like this too, he often gets little scabs that pink over, but it had always (so far!) grown black again.
