i got a maltese and it's super duper ke ai! especially when its a puppy.You can hold it in ur palm and it will fall asleep..Then the barking like squeek.then when it just starts to walk very cute 1.Will walk abit sideways.And ya..maltese are very lazy.haha.My mum dun like animals at first but after a few days with the dog she adores him.Now she will specially prepare food for him and treat him and pamper him like a treasure.
My bro bought it from pasir ris pet farm at around $700 ba.I forgot the price le.Mayb is cheaper.Food wise,not that ex ba.We give him human rice,veg and meat but nv add salt.1 day eat once.

Dogs cannot always eat white rice cos it will make them fat. Instead give them brown rice. Pls factor in costs like kibbles (dry food), trips to vet for injection etc, or treats. Not forgetting your love, care and concern for it. Do not buy on impulse and then just throw them alone at home. Dogs are also scared of loneliness. Most dogs need brushing of fur coat especially maltese unless u want to keep it short. But even short coat need regular brushing too. Not forgetting their daily walks.
Hope u dun mind me so "loh so" cos it's a committment to keep a dog. I feel very sad when people i know who keep dogs dun bring their dogs down for walks or simply just chuck them aside when they r not "cute" anymore.

To what I know there are owners who purposely dun give the dog the actual amt of the dog needs..so to control its growth...I feel thats cruel too. The dog will be under nutrition & will be weak..will also die young...
Anyway, now theirs mini Husky..in future you'll have mini GR too.
i have a friend who keeps a dog first..then find that she no longer likes it anymore..or sees that the dog like her mom more (cos mom spend more time with the dog), she want to adopt a kitten..but still she dun always do her part of feeding & bathing them..as & when she feels like loving them, then she'll love them..or else she just do her things & don't even remember she has pets..its more like her parents doing the job more..
Now the cat also likes her mom more already...

Do think it over cos, it will take up lots of your time and the dog is 100% dependent on you. And please do not let them suffer.

hybrids are very weak.. =/ pick up one that attracts u from the spca.. some of them are real hardy.. i wouldn't advice on feeding him anything other than kibbles, and poached meat(except for chicken) dun add salt or sugar.. some people dun bother just anyhow feed..then skin got problem, this problem that problem.. =/
small dogs like maltese are forever small.. but even so, they should get loads of exercise, if not they'll just turn lazy and the next thing you know, all they'll do is lie around the whole day..
expenses, my dog is a large breed, so may differ..
your puppy should come vaccinated at 3 months old.. if not he/she'll need 3 vaccinations, spread over 3 months. each shot costs 100+/- thereafter he/she'll need 1 shot a year.
leash and collar, pick a good one,
i have a few leashes from them, very good quality, but alittle expensive..i can't remember how much but the leash+clip is probably 50, i'm using a training collar($8), not many people like to use it..nt sure how much normal collars cost.. but i just bought a $254 collar for my dog xD diamond studded. lol.
food, my dog finishes off a 30lb pack in around a month..prices vary for different brands, but 30lb is usually about 70+/- onwards.. smaller dogs won't eat as much, but do invest in an air tight container to keep the dry food in, because dog's dry food very condusive for bacteria and bugs.. if your dog is going to take a certain period of time to finish the food, the food will be left exposed for that period of time..
my dog eats 3 times a day, dry food + carrots + beef..carrots and beef
dun cost much.. buy ground beef or diced beef.. just make sure its bite sized.. =/
food bowls, prices range once again.. you need 1 water bowl and 1 food bowl.. there are cheap plastic ones..
toys! prices range from a few dollars to over $50.. you don't have to buy alot, depends on your level on interaction with your dog.. make sure you remove the toy from your dog before he loses interest in it.. then dun have to buy new toys all the time..
advice you to bring your dog out for walks, everyday since day 1. no point toilet train at home.. just bring him out and let him do it outside..
grooming; i shower my dog once a week, i don't know about others.. but small dogs are much easier to shower.. =/ i use espree, $20+/- shampoo and another 20+/- for conditioner..
obedience lessons, optional but advisable.. earlier the better.. try to start lessons like 1 week after you get the dog..
all in all, start of cost of getting a new maltese puppy would probably be around $1000+/-, depend on how much you willing to splurge.. thereafter, monthly maintainence will probably set you back $100 or so.. maybe for smaller dogs its less.. but for my dog its around 100-150.. not inclusive of full grooming sessions..

d`lite ; how to send them to get toilet trained in another place? ur house is a different place alr.. easiest way is to walk them maybe 10-15 min after meal or when u notices is about the time your dog would pee.. so thats after meals and when they wake up.. they rather pee on soft absobant places.. so they will want to pee outside.. and give a stern NO! when they pee indoors..
other training like obedience and stuff, yes. you can do that, but its costly and not as efficient. going thru obedience training with ur dog builds bond between dog and owner..
