don't go near your dog after she's given birth. feed her of course, but try not to go near her. push the food to her with a stick or something... cos dogs are VERY protective over their young, especially in the first couple of weeks after birth... i've heard stories of dogs attacking their owners cos they thought their owner was trying to attack their puppies.

how many yrs has the dog been with u? if the dog feels close to u then dun worry. when my dog was pregnant, she still plays with us.. in fact, she enjoys sticking to us even more cos we were so protective of her.. like if she wanna climb up, we'd carry her up.. scared she jump then get miscarriaged mah! keke..
how many mths liao? or how big is her tummy? anyway, a helpful tip.. prepare 2 paper boxes/cartons that ur dog can stay comfortably in. 1 is for her when she delivers, the other 1 is for her n her pups to stay in temporary.. (erm, for my case we need the 2nd box cos my dog usually slps on the bed with us.. hee~)
just before my dog gave birth, she started howling.. so my mum rushed to get the box and "threw" my dog in.. haha! too kan cheong liao mah.. (we were kan cheong abt the giving birth process.. my mum was kan cheong abt her bed.. haha! scared the bed would be stained with her blood..)
we kept watch loh.. kaypoh mah.. hee~ lucky we did, cos my dog couldn't squeeze out the 1st pup by herself.. then my mum helped to pull (gently) it out.. the other 2 pups came out smoothly without any help.
my dog licked her pups clean loh.. but i cleaned them too loh.. nothing beats a warm bath.. haha! then the little pups were so cuuuutttteeee....!! ah.. missed those times..
then as for the box.. it was quite bloody.. so we threw it away n got another box to house my dog n her babies.

wah, 9yrs old ar.. equals to 63yrs of human age.. whoa! gao lin chan fu liao! gotta be careful then.. must watch over her carefully..! not dat i wanna scare u lah.. but my dog 5 yrs old then we dun dare to let her give birth liao loh.. cos dogs are like old ppl.. if old then give birth.. quite risky loh..
yeah, if u wan.. can get the vet's help as well.. my dog used to be so fat.. after giving birth she slimmed down a lot! so poor thing.. shows how tedious is the pregnancy.. ur dog so old liao.. must be careful!
n i think u better get the milk powder (for dogs n small animals 1, not the human 1 hor!) ready.. apart from the mum's milk, it'll be better if the pups has other milk sources (in case the mum's milk isnt enough).. n the mum can drink the milk to get more nutrients as well.
btw, i LOVE feeding pups.. the milk bottle so small.. then the way pups drink from the bottle is so cute!!

haha.. if u've raised a dog for a few yrs, u'll be an expert too! to think that i used to be scared of dogs b4 cookie came to my hse.. haha!
give birth or not.. well, u can do more research by surfing the net. but my petshop uncle suggests letting the dog give birth once or twice b4 neutering her. cos 1 of his customers' dog nv give birth.. was neutered once she was big enough.. then when she only 6 or 7, she got cancer.. i saw the dog too.. quite poor thing..
but if give birth.. like my dog.. slimmed down so much.. or like the petshop uncle's dog.. she gave birth once.. after dat she started having skin problems. so poor thing.. the shih tzu is sooo sweet loh!
but if neutered hor.. if suay suay ur dog got any allergy, then jalat liao loh.. i saw a case.. the cat died when being neutered cos he was allergic to 1 of the drugs used..
on the other hand, if neutered, ur dog is more tamed.. n less chances of contracting some other illness..

however we went to the vet and she had surgery.. caserarian.. haiss. like so kan kor leh. 3 puppies! but one was deformed and died so left two.
