There will be a Fancy Dress Competition at the above Dog Show on 7 Nov 2004 at 12 noon. Registration for Fancy Dress Competition closes at 11.45am on 7 Nov 2004.
The most popular form of canine competition in Singapore is the dog show. Every show features dogs of all breeds and sizes and offers visitors an opportunity to see over 370 dogs compete in the purebred dog show, and the obedience and agility trials.
In the Dog Show, the formal 'beauty contests' for purebred dogs, the Singapore Kennel Club has set a 'Breed Standard' for every breed of dog, which represents the ideal conformation and characteristics for that breed. At these shows, the Judge must compare each dog's conformation, movement, temperament etc., with the breed standard to find the dog nearest to that ideal picture of the breed.
In the advanced Obedience class, impressive exercises such as Scent Discrimination (the dog selects by scent and retrieves an article), Retrieve over high jump (the dog fetches an item over a high jump), Food Refusal (the dog refuses 3 items of food offered by the judge) and many more are performed.
In Agility, the obstacles race, you will see dogs leap over hurdles, jump through tyres, run over see saws, walk on elevated beams, weave in and out between poles etc. The fastest dog that clears the obstacles with the least number of faults wins.
