Guess what? A hamster was found in my garden!
Question:
No joke, my mum was sweeping near my rabbits' cage when she thought a piece of paper flew past her feet, on closer examination, she discovered that it was a hamster! Guess it must have escaped from somewhere and found its way to my place. Anyway, we've been looking after it for the past couple of days, so far no one seems to have lost a hamster. My family is really warming up towards it, buying little snacks for it.
Now, it's been quite some time since I last took care of a hamster, so any tips on hamster care from the hamster lovers here?

Answer:

i believe u of cos!
i found my female hamster on the void deck of a HDB flat!

Answer:

wah found a "treasure"
feed it fruits and veggies but not too much... in case it gets diarrhea. if you dun hv cage put in a box or tub... but make sure it is high enough so that the hamster cannot escape.

Answer:

Fruits and vegetables once or twice a week will do and give in very small amounts cos too much fibre will cause diarrhoea in hamsters. Normally just the standard hammie food will do those which u can find in pet shops. For extra supplement get liquid vitamin to help keep its health good! Change ur bedding once or twice a week. That's about it. Sand baths are good too put in the cage for 10 minutes and watch it play! That's about it and u'll have a happy hamster always! Plus the wheel and occassional petting of course! Good luck and may the hamster bring u companionship and joy always! Ha Ha, it did for me!

Answer:

Answer:

Answer:

Wow, thanx for all the tips so far. It's settling pretty well and it's really funny. This is the first time i see a hamster going round in circles before peeing or pooing Really funny to watch it, can tell when it needs to answer nature's call.
I didnt know that hamsters need sand baths. When I was younger, my dad used to bath it with water, let it swim in a basin. That hamster was a better swimmer than me, i cant even swim
I dont have a wheel for it, but it loves the newpaper i throw into the box for it. It'll shred the paper, try n tunnel under the paper until I told my mum that it's trying to tunnel its way to the north pole or something.
It has really brought joy in to our lives, but I cant help but wonder if its previous owner is worrying or missing it. That's the only downside. Makes me feel kinda guilty. Dunno whether to hope the owner turns up or not.

Answer:

hmm.. don let it bathe in a water.. it might get a cold..and will fall sick..

Answer:

i use to bath my hamsters in water but the pple advice me not to do it cos if the ear is not dry will get infection or sth.. but some hamster can bath..to be safe than sorry i nv bath them in water anymore..

Answer:

A little update on Hammie, it's settling down really well. It's even aware when I'm near his box, and he'll start scrambling around and try to climb out of the box until i carry him out.
What kind of toys do u get for your hamsters? I have a little log which hammie uses to sleep in, and as his very own playground. I think he might need more variety so recommendations anyone?

Answer:

I concentrate on the variety of food for my hamsters

Answer:

well i put a wheel for my hamster i nv seen it play.. jus once in a blue moon.. i put a lot of things inside b4 but i tin they jus not interested.. they jus like sleeping and eating i guess

Answer:

actually small animals get amused easily with anything. my hamster you put watever thg inside he also play and get very excited. haha~ cute hammie. i let it play with yakult straw and the straw wrapper, chewing blocks, and a lid for it to tunnel under.
yea, it's best not to bathe hamster in water. cos it may catch a cold or get infection. i rem when i was young my cousin bathed her hamster in water and used shower foam!! in the end the hamster got infection in.. the private part. so sad...

Answer:

yeah.. my hammy got sick after i bathe them in water.. somemore is warm water..
den they vomitted watever they ate, and a few died after tat.. *sob*

Answer:

newspapers are not advisable...coz of the ink and everything that they use to dye the papers, it will be unhealthy for the hams. Its like u chewing newspapers and swallow the saliva with the black ink of the papers. So,if u wan maybe can use tissue paper.
just a small tip in case ur ham falls sick

Answer:

Hee, guess what? Finally found out how Hammie got into my garden. He belonged to a neighbour :P And interestingly, Hammie has a history of 2 other owners besides me! The first owner actually released him because they didnt want it anymore, they expect a hamster to be able to fend for itself??? Anyway, he found his way into my neighbour's home, and they put him in a cardboard box which he chewed out of overnight and found his way into my garden where he's now getting tubby from all the loving care he gets Didnt know my little Hammie is such a survivor. Anyway, the neighbour doesnt seem interested in taking Hammie back, coz she has 2 other hamsters rite now. So I can keep him without guilt
