MoS' Lumb leaves the dance club
Question:
Question: After hearing rumours here and there, here's the official report. Poor thing, 3 weeks kena sacked. Jan 7, 2006 MoS' Lumb leaves the dance club By Sujin Thomas Music Reporter THE general manager of Ministry of Sound (MoS), Mr Terry Lumb, has left the dance club after three weeks on the job. Mr Clement Lee, executive director of Lifebrandz, which holds the franchise to run the British club here, said Mr Lumb's services were terminated on Thursday, three weeks after the nightspot opened in Clarke Quay. Britain's MoS is bound by a contract to supply staff to the club here. Mr Lee said the decision was made after customers complained about having to endure long queues to gain entry to the club. 'We built this club for people to enjoy, not to queue. And if they have to queue, we should make it as pleasant as possible,' Mr Lee said. On weekends, the club packs in an average of 3,000 people with a queue snaking outside the door for as long as 50m, if not more. On New Year's Eve, the queue went past Hill Street towards Merchant Court. Lifebrandz, a mainboard-listed homegrown company, opened the $7 million club on Dec 16. Mr Lumb, 42, who could not be contacted yesterday, has 22 years of experience with British clubs like Blackpool's The Waterfront, Tokyo Jo's in Preston and Birmingham's Dome. Mr Lee said his departure was just a stage of the club's development. 'During the course of a club's life cycle, different types of expertise will be needed. This is just one of the changes we had to make.' Mr Lee added that Mr Lumb has returned to Britain to work for MoS there. As to Mr Lumb's replacement, he said one had already been found and will arrive in a week's time from Britain's MoS. Till then, MoS project director Peter Bowden will oversee operations of the club, including management of its queues. Answers: After hearing rumours here and there, here's the official report. Answers: think they are abit too impatient with him... Answers: Well they had to look like they were doing something about those queues... Answers: yah...just trying to make him a scapegoat. 1 good way to kill the que is stop spinning rnb Answers: I think after the hype has go away..Then the queue will be shorter.. Answers: that was a tad quick to sack a top person.. only allowing him 3 weeks to iron out problems that might be faced in a newly opened franchise is fierce in my opinion Answers: actually he didnt get sack.. just go off to another MOS if i not wrong. Answers: Maybe u r rite bro, he wasn't sacked but was made to leave instead...hehe Well, if a general manager is in a job for a mere 3 weeks, it does speak something for the man and the management rite? Is the queueing issue that serious? Personally I thought long queues outside clubs is quite expected during the festive periods. I never hear ppl launching formal complaints at Zouk or any other clubs which have ridiculously long queues before too. Hope MoS management learnt something abt local clubbing scene. We're all watching Answers: Well, you see, the MOS Here franchise is owned by a company, therefore they did sack him, and after that he went back to MOS in Britan. And i agree, once the hype goes away, the ques will be really very much shorter. However I do think it's a tad bit unfair for them not to give him enough time to really iron out the many problems that they're having. However, I think he should have done his homework as well, and to really see that the crowd in Here is very different from all around the world. Haha and yea, 1 way to stop the ques, is to stop RNB, but currently, that's not feasible in Here. A fully, all only electronic music club will never suceed in Here as most Hereans only want to be seen. They're too closed minded to even want to hear other forms of music, and only follow on embracing things that the US embraces. Most of them deny themselves, only caring about how cool it makes them seem. Answers: Can I safely conclude this: Bring in some trance and there wont be queues anymore? wahahahhhha! just kidding Answers: but the que at mos is really slow....though they haf quite afew counters, the entry rate is far too slow...compared wif zouk, zouk's que move much faster Answers: True. Although I seldom get to queue for Zouk (I always sneak past...hehe), Zouk queue moves relatively faster (except for holi eve). MoS queue is really ridiculously long. I always think queues are gimmicks to create the crowdedness impression. Guess MoS overdid that Answers: poor guy... he was polite and very nice when i met him at the pre-opening. Answers: no use being polite and nice when you cant solve problems. and theres nothin sad bout terry lumb leavin mos Here; he's just returning back to uk mos base thats all. what we are counting on is a new gm fr uk mos who can effectively reduce crowd congestion and improve crowd movement into the club. after 3 weeks and mos's letting non-invite party-goers into the club at 5-8 people every 10-15 mins, its really crazy. Answers: well...alternatively, they can hire me to help, hehe! i know how to shorten their queues and increase revenue. terry was around for 3 weeks? i think more right...mos needs to prepare itself for its opening and stuff, so he's probably here for the past 3months plus? have to agree, he was a nice man. now let's see what the new guy from britain's gonna do. Answers: the queue might be long, but it didn't take long to enter the club... i think it was a bad idea to put rnb THEN main dancehall... the rnb area is always so packed, and everybody has to squeeze thru just to get to the main area Answers: hrmz...u can always go by the other entrance right? more: Zouk reopening on this Friday 21 Oct zouk this coming...
