ZoukOut Dec 4@Tanjong Beach, Sentosa, featuring Paul Van Dyk, Timo Maas and more...
Question:
Question: AT FIRST glance, this year's ZoukOut seems to be smaller than last year's. It will be held for only one night at Tanjong Beach in Sentosa on Dec 4 , instead of the two nights of revelry served up last year in July. The annual festival, hosted by the Jiak Kim Street nightspot Zouk, is in its fourth year. Ms Tracy Phillips, marketing manager of the club, says nine international DJs will appear, just like last year. They include German trance and hard house DJs Timo Maas and Paul van Dyk , as well as hip-hop DJ Jazzy Jeff and deep house DJ Miguel Migs, both from the United States. 'What we're going for this time round is maximum impact - a dynamic festival with a non-stop feel for clubbers,' she adds. The DJs will play on three stages and the event will run for 12 hours. Last year's bash in Marina South cost $1.5 million to stage. A crowd of 3,800 showed up on the first day and 15,000 attended the next day. The first day's gig had one stage filled with electronic acts like Icelandic duo Gus Gus and British act Stereo MCs. The bigger Saturday show had four stages and headlining DJs like James Lavelle and Sasha. Despite the shorter Zouk out this year, Ms Phillips says it will still cost $1.2 million to stage since the DJs, who are big names in the industry, are charging more. According to industry insiders, a name like Migs can command US$5,000 (S$8,400) a night in the US. Van Dyk is reportedly one of the highest earners in the industry and was voted Best International DJ at the 1999 Music Awards in London. -- Jill Alphonso ZoukOut will be held at Tanjong Beach on Dec 4. Tickets go on sale on Oct 22. For more information, visit Source: Answers: AT FIRST glance, this year's ZoukOut seems to be smaller than last year's.
