Oral Thrush? Please Help
Question:
Ok, I have this white thing in my mouth, it looks like a peice of cottage cheese. (ew) I looked it up on the internet, the closest thing I found was an Oral Thrush, but they say thats usually on your tongue, mines kind of next to the punching bag thing, but on the side of my mouth. (not directly next to it) Anyway, I'm thinkin' I got this because of a Tetnis shot (can't spell) I got last Wed. and on the internet, it said that if you're not an infant, or have diabetes, or any other immune difficiancy disorder than it may be from drugs, medical treatment, or antibiotics. So could it be from the shot? I mean, this nasty little booger (not litterally a real booger, we're talking about the white thing) appeared a couple days after I got my pyshical and shot. Is that why I have this thing? It doesn't hurt, smell, bite and it hasn't spread. (Thank goodness) It's just this nasty little annoying thing that I want to go away! My mum said that she got them all the time when she was young, said she eventually coughed them up. That's not normal...but is that what's going to happen? Will I just cough it up? Is it from the shot? Is it something more? Is it serious? Will it eventually smell, hurt, spread? I hope not. and HOW DO I GET RID OF IT? Or will it just... go away as quickly as it came? and will I get more again? Please...I'm pretty sure my body is a healthy place...you know I do eat a lot of salts and sweets, but I'm a teenanger, don't expect me to eat peas and carrots all day. The only thing that's really wrong with me is I have asthma. And that's not the problem. So, Please Help me.

Answer:
Tonsil Stones are irregularly shaped, whitish/yellow, globs of mucous and bacteria that get caught in the back of the throat. They form in the tonsil cryptswhich are simply small pockets or divots that appear in everyones tonsils. Tonsil stones aren't harmful, just annoying. Just cough them up.

Answer:
Tonsil Stones? Tonsil Stones! Yay! Thank you! I'm not so worried anymore. Thankyou so much.

Hey Guest, how are you doing?

When did this "white thing" in your mouth appear and how long has it been since you had your first Tetanus (Td) shot? My concern is: this sticky cottage cheese-like growth is simular to the membrane that forms over the throat in persons with diphtheria, the contagious and potentially life-threatening bacterial infection.

Although you just had a Td shot days ago, if it has been more than five years since your first tetanus/diphtheria shot, The Immunization Action Coalition recommends that you recieve a booster dose of vaccine to ensure adequate protection. However, I have a gut feeling that you should be seen by a physician for an examination and throat culture.

Even more reason to obtain a throat culture is if you have been around an infected person, have/had a small puncture, or any reason to believe that you have been exposed to the Td bacterima. Various experts had recently been criticized for their failure to diagnosis Td in a 61-year old lady in Milton Road, Liversedge.

Best wishes,

Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You've already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place!

Doctor: I am, bit by bit.
