Welcome to Health Dialogue !!!

chronic back pain, elevated proteins - ???
Question:
Hi all,

My wife (36yo) for the last six weeks has been suffering from terrible back pain (upper middle). She's normally someone who doesn't take much more than an aspirin but she's been put on Hydrocodone, Ambien and Methocarbomol. She's been seeing a chiropractor and physiotherapist but both have been unable to give her any relief.

The nights are worst but the pain is still bad during the day. She describes the pain as around the spine spreading out about 4-5 inches either side, but the spine itself doesn't seem to be bothering her.

The blood test came back last week with elevated protein and calcium levels and today she had another round of tests that we get back in two days.
The GP has listed a bunch of things, such as rhuematoid arthritis, lupus, etc, that they are testing for and mentioned cancer about three times We just about hit the floor.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis but I would like to know what less serious causes there may be and how common they are. I'm not putting my head in the sand but I would like to be able to confidently reassure my wife.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thx
