Answer:
Hey Guest, how are you doing?

You may need to be evaluated in a hospital's emergency department if the breast pain is associated with other signs of an infection (such as a fever, swelling, or redness to the breast) and if your health care provider cannot see you promptly. For simple mastitis without an abscess, oral antibiotics are prescribed.

Mastitis is an infection of the tissue of the breast that occurs most frequently during the time of breastfeeding. This infection causes pain, swelling, redness, and increased temperature of the breast.

However, they can occur in women who have not recently delivered as well as in women after menopause. Mild temperature elevations (previously termed milk fever) accompanied by some breast or nipple soreness is usually secondary to engorgement and dehydration immediately (48-72 hours) after delivery and is treated by improved breastfeeding technique.

Never-the-less, in postmenopausal women, breast infections may be associated with chronic inflammation of the ducts below the nipple. Hormonal changes in the body cause the milk ducts to become clogged with dead skin cells and debris.

These clogged ducts make the breast more open to bacterial infection. Infection tends to come back after treatment with antibiotics.

Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You've already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place!

Doctor: I am, bit by bit.

Oops! I still think that it might be an infection and needs to be evaluated by a physician.

Answer:
It might just be a simple cyst. Take Motrin for a couple of weeks and it might resolve it. If not or if it worsens, then you can see a general surgeon and have it incised and drained.

I would go to your Doctor. I did a post on left nipple lump. My family doctor looked at it and now i'm going to a specialist (to be save). I can't get to see him in June (waiting since March). Next week I have to get a mammogram and a ultrasound.

My family doctor doesn't think it's cancer (it's like 1 in 100,000) but it's just to be save.

Answer:
I would make an appointment with a general surgeon. Your family doctor would most likely not excise it (if necessary) but a general surgeon may be able to do it right in the office at the time of that very appointment. It's probably nothing but something very simple but because it's there, you should have it evaluated.

Answer:
Hey,

Was there ever any news about what those lumps were? from either of the guests?

It would be interesting to know the cause so that next time the question is asked we have more info to give that person.
