Pelvic Pain.
Question:
Hello, I am a 24 year old male and I have been having pain in my pelvic area for almost a year now. I,ve gone to the doctor at least 10 times and have had no luck. My family doctor really had no idea what it was but put me on vioxx, then celebrex for the pain. I then went to another doctor and after a workup and rectal exam, he thought that it wasn't my prostate and thought that it could be my sciatic nerve. Then I went to a Urologist and he thought that it was my prostate, but he didn't do a rectal exam or blood test. The pain is from left side of the bulb of my penis, through the socket where my left leg connects to my pelvis and down my left leg. If I prod around in my left leg socket/ pelvic area it seems that I can feel hard tissue that isn't on the other side. I also have been having weakened erections and no "spontaneous erections" and the pain gets worse after intercourse. My history is: Ocassional smoker, smoked marijuana and drank alot when younger (been clean & sober for 4 years), pulled groin muscle several times while riding motorcycles when younger, spend twelve hours a day on feet and lifting. If anyone can help, please respond. Answer: What kind of work up have your doctors done for you this far? You need to insist on an Abdominal Ultrasound or a Cat Scan of your Abdomen & Pelvis. If your doctor won't order either of these studies for you, then you need to find a doctor who will. Even a walk-in doctor would order them. Answer: Hey planemechanic., how are you doing? The doctor diagnoses hernia by doing a physical exam and by taking x rays and blood tests to check for blockage in the intestine. The main treatment for inguinal hernia is surgery to repair the opening in the muscle wall. An inguinal hernia occurs in the groin (the area between the abdomen and thigh). It is called "inguinal" because the intestines push through a weak spot in the inguinal canal, which is a triangle-shaped opening between layers of abdominal muscle near the groin. Symptoms of inguinal hernia may include a lump in the groin near the thigh; pain in the groin; and, in severe cases, partial or complete blockage of the intestine. Obesity, pregnancy, heavy lifting, and straining to pass stool can cause the intestine to push against the inguinal canal. If the protruding intestine becomes twisted or traps stool, part of the intestine might need to be removed. This surgery is called bowel resection. (Bowel is another word for intestine.) Best wishes, Answer: All the doctors I've seen have checked me for a hernia. One doctor did a pelvic X-ray and wanted a bone scan (which I didn't do). I also haven't had a blood test yet. Would a hernia effect my erections like this? The hard tissue between the left side of the bulb of my penis and thigh bone is barely noticeable by feel, yet the pain feels like my left leg is being pulled out of its socket! And, it doesn't get better or worse if massage the area. Also which would be better, an MRI, Ultrasound or CAT scan for the sympoms I've described? Thanks for your replies! Answer: If you have an inguinal hernia, I'm not so sure that would cause erectile dysfuction, but the psychological stress over feeling pain in the are when you are having an erection, would. US or CT's can diagnose a hernia but because your doctor isn't even sure that you have one, and your pain is in the pelvis, I would ask about a CT of the Abdomen & Pelvis first.
