post op swollen glands
Question:
My sister had a simple surgery on her thumb. Had regional anesthesia and IV sedation. Upon leaving surgery center her lymphnodes on the sides of her neck were swollen and painfull. ANyone have similar problem? What happened? She doesn't have a fever or feel sick other then her glands. Hurts to chew real bad, hurts some on swallowing.

Answer:
It sounds like a side effect from the anesthesia. It should get better over time. If it worsens in any way or she develops other symptoms, call her doctor.

Answer:
Hey Guest, how are you doing?

Your doctor will treat the cause of the swelling. If you have an infection, you may need to take an antibiotic or an antiviral medication.

When you're fighting an infection, nearby lymph nodes get bigger and become tender. But, with an infection, they can swell to 2 or 3 times their usual size.

In children, the problem is usually a sign of infection. When older people develop the condition, there may be a more serious underlying cause.

Best wishes,

The Prison Hospital

Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You've already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place!

Doctor: I am, bit by bit.
