i think all you need is sufficient rest. After a really good workout sessions, even for ppl who trained for years, usually one day after( on the third day) the training, you may suffer from muscle soreness.
This is termed DOMS (Delay onset muscle soreness), in fitness terms.
The best way to recover? Rest & lots of water. Post workout stretches helps to enlongate contracted muscles due to workout stress & provide some relieve too.

lots of sleep helps, and of course an elevated protein intake to aid in muscle recovery. also u will wanna take a few weeks of training for the muscle to condition itself from DOMS.
also, some people hit certain body part once a week. the muscle loses its conditioning to the training already and you'll still get soreness week after week.
So up exercising each muscle to at least twice a week, and severe DOMS will pretty much be a thing of the past.

Many years back i used to ride a motorcycle.. Whenever i push myself hard enough i always get a cramp in the triceps when i ride home! Couple of times the chests cramped too.. had to pull over
